The Manager, Career and Alumni Services will be an integral part of S&C’s Career and Alumni Resource Center, which provides career counseling to current and former S&C lawyers at all stages in their careers. Working with the Director of Career and Alumni Services, the Manager will provide one-on-one career guidance and coaching to S&C lawyers and alumni of all levels. The Manager will also work to further develop the Firm’s robust alumni network.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide individualized career counseling to S&C associates and alumni, including identifying opportunities, resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, networking best practices and offer evaluation. Serve as a general resource for S&C lawyers as they explore post-S&C career paths.
Source in-house and other professional opportunities for lawyers using the Resource Center
Serve as a networking resource to S&C associates and alumni by facilitating connections, working with clients and developing relationships with select external recruiters
Work with S&C partners, clients and alumni to identify candidates for key job openings
Contribute to marketing efforts to promote the Resource Center both internally and externally
Oversee administration of the Firm’s Alumni Network website, including content and functionality
Track and report on program metrics for the Resource Center and Alumni Network
Research and stay abreast of legal market employment trends
Organize and conduct panels and other relevant programming on topics of interest to associates
Develop and update resources for lawyers to utilize as part of their career transition
Collaborate with members of the Legal Recruiting and Professional Development, Legal Personnel, Business Development, Communications, Special Events and Information Services departments
In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.
Along with the Director of the Resource Center, the Manager will supervise an Assistant who provides administrative support to the program.
Deep knowledge of legal hiring trends and practices
Ability to develop strong relationships and trust
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Highly organized and self-directed approach to managing multiple projects simultaneously; excellent attention to detail and accuracy
High level of judgment, discretion and ethics with the ability to maintain confidentiality
Education and/or experience
5-10+ years of experience in career coaching and/or in-house recruiting, preferably in the legal industry or other professional services firm
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
J.D. and experience as a practicing attorney
Significant experience sourcing and placing attorneys into in-house roles
Experience with corporate alumni engagement
