Orrick currently has an opportunity for a Practice Manager in our Employment Law practice, located in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Sacramento, or the Global Operations Center in Wheeling, WV.

We are searching for a new member of the team to handle practice operations for a busy employment litigation partner and meaningfully assist in growth and strategic expansion of the practice. You will work with the partner’s clients to identify process and other improvements for increasing efficiency and the effective delivery of legal services.
This is an ideal role for a resourceful and creative strategist, and problem solver with strong analytical, strategic and operational skills. The core purpose of the role is to prioritize, multi-task, and drive forward multiple projects using limited partner availability in the most effective way.
Essential Position Responsibilities:
Assist the partner, in collaboration with the Orrick’s Pricing and Engagement Management Team, in pricing matters and in managing the budgeting and cost of engagements
Liaise with case teams and partner to ensure that case calendars are up-to-date and properly organized
Coordinate staffing on client matters, including helping to secure adequate, consistent staffing through coordination with assigning partners, Practice Group Leader or Business Unit Leader, and/or recruiting and lawyer development
Assist the partner with handling administrative responsibilities relating to opening of new matters and client conflict issue
Business Development and Strategic Initiatives
Oversee with sales and marketing staff to assist in the execution of strategic business development initiatives articulated in the partner’s business plan, including but not limited to:
Prepare responses to competitive new business opportunities
Build and maintain a library of business development collateral
Assist in drafting articles, speeches and other presentations
Research, compile data and perform analysis related to these initiatives
Keep abreast of industry and market developments that present strategic business opportunities; bring opportunities to the attention of partner and help design and execute on plans to capitalize on opportunities

Knowledge, Experience and Education:
At least 4+ years of law firm or professional services firm or similar experience
Law degree a plus but not required
Excellent professional writing and communication skills
Excellent project management, prioritization, attention to detail and organizational skills
Previous experience in interaction and partnership building with C-level executives and other firm leaders
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience working effectively with people at all professional levels in a multi-office environment in order to build working relationships and work as part of a team
Proven ability to exercise good judgment and decision-making.
Demonstrated ability to be discreet and treat confidential information appropriately
Demonstrated ability to effectively use technology, database, presentation and spreadsheet software at an advanced level
Ability to adhere to the highest level of accuracy when generating reports and analyzing data
