New Academic Ventures at Berkeley (NAV-B) is a new unit in the Provost's office of UC Berkeley focused on the development, implementation, and success of revenue generating academic initiatives across the campus that are grounded in our university mission of access and excellence. The new unit reports to the Dean and COO of UC Berkeley Extension. UC Berkeley Extension, with an operating budget of $58M, develops and runs revenue-generating academic programs that increase access to UC Berkeley, trains the global workforce, and maintains and builds upon UC Berkeley's academic excellence. The Extension team includes 150 staff and 1400 instructors who serve 48,000 annual student enrollments in over 2000 courses and 80 programs.
The senior contract administrator will be a key member of the new NAV-B team, working with senior leaders on everything from business ideation and partnership-building to negotiation and contract completion. In collaboration with colleagues, works with schools and departments across the Berkeley campus and externally with potential corporate and university partners to develop, review and analyze contracts for academic revenue generating projects.
Required Qualifications • Expertise in drafting, reviewing, evaluating, implementing campus business contracts • Business acumen as demonstrated by degree or experience in business environment • Knowledge or experience in international contract law • Expert knowledge of contracting principles and practices and knowledge of Copyright, Trademark, and Federal and State laws associated with business contracts in academia. • Ability to provide expert advice and guidance on business transactions in a complex legal and policy environment.
