We have an immediate opening for a Director of Diversity & Inclusion. This position may be filled in our Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, or St. Louis office.
Under the direction of the Chief Diversity, Inclusion & Professional Development Officer, and the Executive Board, the Director of Diversity and Inclusion is charged with implementing the Firm diversity and inclusion strategies. This includes serving as a key leader in the development and execution of strategies that drive key business results. Essential job functions include:
Provide support for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and other internal diversity and inclusion group efforts; work collaboratively with Committee and other groups to develop strategic action plans and implement initiatives to achieve established goals.
Promote and advance diversity initiatives so that they are considered in all critical Firm decisions.
Integrate the diversity and inclusion strategies across business stakeholders, including Firm Governance, Legal Recruiting, Professional Development, Client Development, Procurement and Human Resources.
Monitor external diversity best practices and make recommendations for new initiatives to ensure Firm maintains a leadership position.
Establish strategic priorities and objectives in the development of the overall diversity budget, including return on investment models.
Provide support and initiate strategies to expand opportunities for diverse lawyers to work on significant matters for key clients.
Build and sustain effective working relationships with: diverse lawyers at the Firm; individuals and groups at the Firm working to advance and support diversity and inclusion; other diversity professionals and leaders at peer firms, bar groups and other organization; and clients’ diversity professionals.
Identify opportunities to increase the external visibility of diverse lawyers through speaking engagements, articles, and other related activities.
Attend and participate, including as a presenter, at diversity conferences, affinity group panels, etc.
Collaborate with the Diversity Committee and Client Development to design internal and external communications and marketing strategies to ensure lawyers, clients and the marketplace understand HB’s commitment to diversity.
Develop and implement programs to help achieve the Firm’s goal of improving the recruitment, development, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys.
Work collaboratively with Attorney Hiring Committees and Legal Recruiting team members to design innovative and effective strategies to identify and attract diverse attorneys.
Provide guidance on best practices for mentoring, retention and promotion of diverse attorneys.
Prepare and monitor the diversity & inclusion budget.
Manage diversity & inclusion coordinators, interns and scholars.
5 year minimum experience working in a professional services firm.
3 years’ in a Manager or Supervisor role which includes managing the daily activities of one or more Direct Report(s).
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work after hours, as needed.
Ability to travel to other offices, as needed.
Ability to deliver superior service to all internal and external customers and communicate effectively.
Ability to interact in a professional and courteous manner with clients and employees at all times; professional appearance required.
Ability to successfully perform position requirements with excellent organizational, time-management and prioritization skills required.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team; ability and willingness to adapt to changing business demands.
Ability to produce acceptable amount of work efficiently and accurately; ability to produce quality final work product.
Ability to exercise good judgment at all times by making sound and practical decisions; ability to assume responsibility for decisions and act decisively under deadlines.
High level of professional integrity required; ability to maintain confidentiality and build trust.
Ability to lead and motivate the work of others; when applicable, ability to successfully manage direct report(s), including performance evaluation, goal-setting, employee development and problem-solving.
