Brouse McDowell is seeking an experienced, highly-skilled Director of Information Technology to join our firm. In this role, you will be responsible for the long-term strategic direction, leadership and management of the diverse technology needs of the law firm. This includes developing technology roadmaps, leading the IT Department, staff, vendors and ensuring that our firm’s technology is meeting its goals and objectives efficiently and reliably. You will work closely with senior leadership, partners, users, and the IT staff to help determine the best way possible to meet the current and future technology needs of the firm, strategically and operationally.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Maintain the firm's effectiveness and efficiency by defining, delivering, and supporting short and long-term strategic plans for implementing information technologies and end-user support.
Establish a vision for IT systems, platforms and applications, in alignment with the firm’s business strategy.
As a member of the Management team, provide leadership and guidance on business strategy, operational issues, policies and practices affecting the firm with a strong focus on process improvement and service excellence.
Assess the business needs presented by senior management and partners, and recommend innovative technical solutions for business growth, client service, employee productivity, network performance, security, mobile, bring-your-own-device (BYOD) …etc; by maximizing existing technologies and or providing recommendations for new technologies, enhancing the benefit to the firm.
Accurately forecast financial objectives by preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective action.
Mentor and develop the IT Manager and staff, by establishing personal growth opportunities, training and maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
Manage vendor relationships and budgets in a collaborative effort with senior leadership.
Build and maintain relationships with “outsourced” IT vendors and service providers.
Supports the IT Manager in coordinating the activities of the IT helpdesk, vendors and contractors for successful deployment of new solutions and quick troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
Establish, monitor and manage service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned to business objectives.
Maintain a high level of technology expertise, industry knowledge and trends to appropriately scope and manage service offerings.
Develop and provide services associated with assisting the firm with the design and implementation of custom solutions which include: Connectors and add-ons to Document Management Systems, Accounting Systems, Intranets, Phone, Messaging and Video Systems…etc.
Utilize project management best practices for new implementations and upgrades of all IT and communication systems and networks (including: business and legal software applications, data infrastructure, desktops, VoIP, video …etc.).
Complete projects by coordinating resources and timetables with user departments.
Verify solution results by conducting audits of technologies implemented with the appropriate departments, ensuring that expectations have been met.
Implement cybersecurity best practices to include developing security systems, analyzing current systems for vulnerabilities, handling and reporting on all cyber-attacks in an efficient and effective manner, utilizing internal and third-party resources.
Generate reports on activity, quality and performance, as needed, to support stability, security, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance, and executive requirements.
Ensure stability of systems and preserve assets by implementing disaster recovery, back-up and retention procedures and policies.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.
Experience working in a professional services organization, preferably a law firm.
Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in information technology with at least 3 years of leadership experience in managing a team, budgets, projects and collaborating with stakeholders in the analysis, design, implementation, administration, and support of a professional IT department.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking and management skills with the ability to work with senior management and partners of the firm.
Strong business acumen along with a deep understanding of different business disciplines and operational functions.
Thrives in a collaborative and team environment.
Experience with complex implementations and product rollouts.
Proven ability to manage department staff and outsourced vendors to complete projects within critical deadlines, including creating and maintaining detailed project plans, scope of work, and other technical documentation.
Experience in design and troubleshooting of IT infrastructures, WiFi, Cloud, Security, VoIP and video networks.
Experience in managing a Microsoft environment (Windows, Exchange, Server, SQL)
Familiarity and knowledge of Cisco Routers, TCP/IP and Virtualization.
Familiarity and knowledge of applications and solutions (or similar type) required of professional services/law firms such as: Document Management Systems, Customer Relationship Systems (InterAction CRM), Time & Billing Systems (Aderant Expert), Accounting Systems (MiniSoft ARCS 2G) …etc.
Proven ability to evaluate existing technology systems, identify deficiencies, and make new technology recommendations.
Ability to identify and solve problems creatively to ensure an excellent user experience.
Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Experience and knowledge of Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance requirements as it relates to IT.
Resilient and adaptable, stays cool under pressure.
Good communicator to all levels of the organization with articulate verbal and written communications skills.
