JOB SUMMARY: The Attorney Resources and Development Manager supports the Director of Attorney Resources and Development (Director) in all aspects of human resources and development functions for attorneys in the NY Office. Working with the Director, the incumbent has responsibility for executing matters relating to attorney employment (other than recruitment) and human resources services offered to Attorneys. A primary function of the incumbent is to ensure excellence in administrative services to attorneys joining or leaving the Firm and to provide primary administrative assistance and support for all phases of attorney employment functions from hire through termination.
JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Reports directly to the Director of Attorney Resources and Development. Interacts most frequently with the Director of Corporate Practice, the Director of Real Estate Practice, and the Manager of Litigation Practice to keep apprised of developments with attorneys in all areas of practice; Human Resources; Attorney Recruitment and Development; Benefits; Payroll; Information Systems; and Accounting staff. Interacts frequently with all legal and administrative staff to provide excellent customer service to all offices. Supervises the Attorney Resources and Development Assistant.
Primary – Initiates all tasks related to associate and counsel employment in the New York Office:
Supports Director in handling all daily challenges and requests relating to attorneys and attorney employment in the NY Office.
Provides a high level of administrative support to attorneys at the Firm and coordinates special projects as assigned.
Manages processes related to associate and special counsel employment at the Firm, including:
Manages all aspects of administrative procedures relating to attorney hire, termination, change in pay rate or job title, promotion, bonus payments, secondments, externships, non-FMLA leaves of absence, etc.;
Initiates all payroll action forms for all actions relating to attorneys, including changes to pay rate or status for current attorneys; Coordinates with Accounting on corresponding bill rates as appropriate;
Creates and maintains Form I-9 records for attorneys; maintains notification reminders of expiration of work authorization and procures updated Form I-9 documentation where required;
Maintains a current list of non-FMLA leaves of absence and reports to payroll each pay period;
Manages the preparation and maintenance of attorney vacation report records, including calculation, carry-over approval and payouts when required;
Manages all administrative aspects related to hires, terminations and engagement of temporary/contract attorneys.
Manages orientation process for lateral special counsel and associate hires and provides support in connection with partner and incoming first year associate onboarding.
Plays a role in the organization of Fried Frank University, including participation in all the associated events and preparation of Attorney Resources programs.
Manages and supports Director in regard to all pre-employment administrative matters and communications with incoming entry-level associates, including bar exam registration and logistics; bar review course registration; expense reimbursement; payment of stipends, bonuses and salary advances; credential verification; conflicts and background check procedures.
Manages interoffice transfers, secondments and related relocation issues.
Manages onboarding of contract attorneys.
Manages and processes reimbursements for incoming and lateral attorneys of expenses in connection with the bar examination and moving.
Coordinates and liaises with temporary housing providers when needed in connection with a relocation, secondment or externship.
Maintains attorney class lists for all departments in coordinating with the Director of Attorney Resources and Development.
Provides support and assistance to the Director in connection with the annual attorney performance appraisal process for the antitrust, bankruptcy, executive compensation & employee benefits, tax and trusts & estates departments, including support in coordinating with attorneys on submitting appraisals, reviewing appraisals, and analyzing and drafting evaluation summaries for each individual appraisal.
Provides support for all Human Resources and Attorney Development departmental initiatives, as assigned.
Manages requests by attorneys and authorized third parties in reference to employment verifications
(general, mortgage, etc.), and other standard inquiries (i.e., unemployment insurance)
Manages attorney bar admission process, including preparation of employment affidavits.
Updates Firm records and databases to reflect changes in attorney status (name, bar admission, position change, etc.).
Works with the team to develop and maintain comprehensive Attorney Manual; manages compliance with policies; responds to inquiries about the application of policies to specific situations.
Manages periodic policy confirmations process as directed.
Manages Firm sports teams, approves and maintains records of expenditures.
Manages and analyzes regular and ad hoc reports of associate employment statistics and demographics, as needed; manages and assists on survey responses.
Manages personnel file maintenance for attorneys.
Attends new attorney orientation and training programs and other periodic attorney events as directed.
Participates in the management of exit interviews and provides periodic reports of trends, issues, concerns, opportunities, etc.
Works with Director to prepare and manage budget for Attorney Resources and Development;
Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
Provides backup for other Human Resources and Attorney Development department functions, as required.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; JD or Advanced degree in relevant area, e.g., human resources, business, organizational development preferred.
Experience: At least 5 years relevant experience required; law firm experience is preferred.
Must be focused, dynamic, responsive, organized, and focused.
Ability to effectively communicate with attorneys, all levels of administrative staff and contacts outside the Firm both verbally and in writing.
Ability deal with multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously while maintaining exemplary interpersonal skills. Ability to act with a high degree of integrity and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to act in a professional manner at all times.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments.
Ability to work under pressure with interruptions and tight deadlines.

Must demonstrate a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and possess strong writing and organizational skills.
Must be flexible and accommodating to the demands of the Firm’s attorneys and the needs of the department, provide a professional appearance and engaging communication style.
Must have ability to work with minimal supervision on many tasks and flexibility to work beyond the standard work hours as needed.
