Duane Morris LLP is seeking a Research Librarian for its expanding Library. Primary responsibilities include providing legal, business, and due diligence research/reference; providing executive summaries and analysis; fielding technical and password problems; billing time; and supporting the Library’s training and outreach initiatives. Working as part of a centralized team, the right candidate will be providing research support and guidance to all attorneys and staff in offices across the firm. Will need to use critical thinking to analyze each request and identify the best resources for efficient and cost-effective research. Compile and organize information obtained in research projects into a coherent deliverable, accompanied by explanatory notes and analysis, if relevant, so that the material is readily understandable to the user. Troubleshoot problems related to online resources and assist users with general and in-depth questions. Field all incoming requests. Understand and stay current on the firm’s online and print resources and instruct attorneys and staff on best practices and the costs associated with electronic research. Utilize SydneyPlus and Control Desk to monitor research requests.
A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) is preferred, or a master’s degree in another specialty will be considered in lieu of the MLS. A minimum of three (3) years of research experience in a law firm library may be substituted for the master’s degree. Must be able to interact positively with attorneys and staff at all levels within the firm and able to prioritize projects and duties rapidly and efficiently. Schedule flexibility for hours between 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. EST important. The ability to function effectively as a team player as part of the Research team and the ability to exercise independent judgment and diplomacy when handling difficult situations is also essential. Other necessary characteristics include: service-oriented, proactive, flexible, adaptable, responsible, innovative and detail-oriented. Excellent written and oral communication skills, professionalism, a cooperative attitude and dependability are also desired traits. Ability to use available on-line and printed resources in order to perform duties, including LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg and PACER.
