Attorney Professional Development, Professional Legal Management
Skadden is seeking an Attorney Development Manager to join our Attorney Recruiting and Development team in the Washington, D.C. office. As a member of Skadden's professional staff, the Attorney Development Manager will play an integral role in helping the firm provide high-quality service to clients.
The Attorney Development Manager oversees all aspects of attorney development initiatives in the Washington, DC office including, but not limited to, internal and external training opportunities, the attorney performance review process, new hire orientation, exit interviews and the budget process. The Attorney Development Manager supports the department Administrator with respect to initiatives involving non-legal professional personnel.
Works with department Administrator to plan new hire orientation, training and development and evaluation program for associates and counsels.
Assists in planning and coordinating Washington, DC office events directly related to attorney training and networking (e.g., lunchtime speaker series, attorney happy hours/networking events, diversity committee events, panel discussions).
Oversees and works with department Supervisor on annual attorney evaluation process, including soliciting senior attorneys for feedback, managing interim and upward feedback, compiling reports for practice leaders and making recommendations based on feedback.
Works with Practice Group Specialists and/or Managers as applicable on attorney development-related matters.
Makes recommendations for specific attorney training needs outside of the firm-wide programs.
Serves as direct liaison to the attorney development committee in the Washington, DC office.
Ensures current knowledge of firm policies and practices for staff, current knowledge of industry trends and continued professional development for staff.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels for assigned department(s). Interviews and selects candidates and oversees training for assigned staff on industry-specific and department processes.
Coordinates and oversees department projects, day-to-day operations and long-range plans.
Broad and thorough knowledge of Attorney Recruitment and Development department.
Current knowledge of industry best practices, trends and techniques.
Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
Demonstrated experience with leading and supervising others.
Flexibility to travel and adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum of five years administrative experience in a law firm or professional services firm environment and three years of supervisory or leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
