The Law Firm of Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP is now in a search for a Network Engineer. This position is newly created and in addition to the Sr. Network Engineer and the Network Administrator positions. This is a full-time, salaried position, supervised by the Network Manager. The regular hours of employment are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and such other hours as may be required from time to time to ensure the timely rendering of services. This position includes an on-call rotation as regularly designated and/or as the work effort requires.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A college education (preferably in a Computer Sciences major), with a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with a complex computer network in a professional services work environment are required.
DUTIES: The Network Engineer assists in the day-to-day, overall support, maintenance, upgrades and performance of the Firm’s server, san, voice and data networks, and provides back up support for the Sr. Network Engineer and as necessary for the Network Administrator. To this end, the Network Engineer works on servers, storage arrays, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points and controllers, telephony systems, ISP services including PRI, fiber and Ethernet lines; implements new technologies; work with outside vendors on projects; tests and maintains the integrity of the disaster recovery site; supports remote security via two factor authentication for the VPN, OWA, and Citrix; maintains the electronic mail system integrity; maintains the phone systems including adding new phones, creating voicemail boxes, and supporting Jabber; works on various network appliances to ensure the performance of our Internet failover, Internet filtering, and anti?spam capabilities; pushes out applications, security patches and reach out software products; works closely with the Network Manager and Senior Network Engineer to ensure system uptime and to complete projects in a timely manner.
SKILL SET: The Network Engineer must have an advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and Microsoft SQL Server, Active Directory and Exchange Server, VMware, NetApp, Citrix, Cisco Call Manager, networking equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches and wireless access points. He or she must be technically proficient and have strong organizational skills. The Network Engineer must have a natural affinity for technology; he/she must learn and adapt quickly to technological changes and advancements; have a solid understanding of how technology works and interacts with other technology. Interpersonal skills include good verbal and writing skills, tact and diplomacy as well as the ability to interact positively with both staff and lawyers as well as convey a high degree of confidentiality. Organizational skills include the ability to manage multiple responsibilities; work independently; participate as a team member in projects; maintain accurate records; set and keep to schedules; set priorities; and work well under pressure.
The Network Engineer will, as the technology of the Firm advances, be an integral part of the integration between systems, voice and data; in the expanded integration of documents, e?mails and paper files and in our mobile work capabilities. To this end, the Network Engineer will work with internal groups and external vendors to facilitate the advancement of our technology.
