The Director of Diversity is responsible for developing and executing the strategy of Diversity and Inclusion in support of the Firm’s overall strategic direction. Reporting to the Chief Talent Officer, the Director of Diversity will have a highly visible role in the Firm with responsibility for developing and executing the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy to support the firm’s overall strategy and objectives. Working closely with the Chief Talent Officer and Chairs of the diversity committee and subcommittees, the person in this role will develop and lead the area of diversity and deliver in-depth analysis of diversity trends in the legal industry. The role is responsible for planning and organizing diversity functions and operations. Using sound judgment and strategic leadership, the individual in this role will motivate and lead the diversity team to successfully execute the firm’s diversity strategy. The Director of Diversity is a strategic leader who exercises a high level of professionalism and discretion while ensuring excellent client service and satisfaction in all areas. This position will prepare and oversee all aspects of the budget for diversity.
The Director of Diversity is a member of the Talent leadership team and will partner very closely with the Chief Talent Officer and the leaders in Attorney Recruiting, Human Resources, and Professional Development to create an environment of collaboration across the department.
Lead the development, implementation, and execution of a results-oriented diversity and inclusion plan that will advance key firm goals.
Develop a vision and integrated strategy with metrics-driven operational leadership.
Cultivate and maintain effective partnerships with external diversity organizations that lead to strategic programmatic collaborations.
Collaborate with leadership overseeing the direction of internal diversity groups including the Women’s Leadership Initiative and LGBT Affinity groups.
Act as an ambassador of the firm co-hosting diversity recruitment and networking events.
Stay up to date on industry best practices and attend conferences, forums and other professional membership events.
Advise on the firm’s programs to ensure efforts and content are relevant to the firm’s attorneys.
Partner with Attorney Development and Recruiting and Human Resources to attract and retain diverse talent, evaluate and report on attorney and staff metrics, provide leadership in designing tools and programs to help attorneys and supervisors with work culture and retention, and identify strategies to disrupt unconscious bias.
Continually identify talent and rising leaders from a succession planning perspective; provide attorneys and key staff members with professional development opportunities on effectively connecting with diversity, and inclusion issues.
Work closely with firm leaders, Professional Development, Attorney Recruiting, and Human Resources to lead cultural-competency development, including employee resource groups.
Must be specifically listed on resume in order to be considered for this position:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, or a related field required.
Minimum of fifteen plus years of progressive diversity and inclusion leadership experience in a fast-paced, challenging professional services environment required.
Advanced degree in Business is preferred.
Strong client service focus with the ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations.
Ability to establish credibility and build strong relationships at all levels of the firm across practices and geographies.
Demonstrated track record of successfully managing, leading, and mentoring a diversity team.
Strong writing and verbal communication and excellent presentation skills. Ability to effectively tailor communications for different stakeholders.
Extremely detail-oriented, strong organization, and excellent project management skills.
Demonstrated high-level vision, strong and integrated strategy, and metrics-driven operational leadership. Demonstrated high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and excellent judgment in navigating sensitive issues.
Influential with the ability to lead and engage teams with the objective of distinctive client service and the highest level of productivity.
Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, engagement and motivating attorneys across offices and practices.
