Cozen O'Connor is seeking a Director of Legal Recruiting to join it's Philadelphia office. The Director of Legal Recruiting is accountable for the firm wide recruitment of all non-partner level attorneys, including traditional partnership track entry level and lateral associates, counsel, summer associates, department attorneys, and contract attorneys, consistent with the goals and objectives of the firm. This position reports to the Chief Legal Talent Officer and works closely with the firm's hiring partners.
Develops recruiting initiatives, including the sourcing of candidates and proactive outreach to potential applicants; formulates, administers, and maintains policies to streamline attorney recruitment and make it as efficient as possible. Develop and present programming to train attorney interviewers and work with outside consultants on presentations on the elimination of bias in hiring and interviewing skills. Liaison to external headhunters; negotiate and maintain current contracts with headhunters and/or their agencies. Liaison to law school career services professionals; plans and implements efforts to increase and improve firm visibility and profile at targeted law schools.
Analyzes applicant materials and makes candidacy determinations; communicates with candidates; oversees rejection of applicants and coordination of attorney and summer associate candidate interviews. Interviews and evaluates candidates in collaboration with department representatives. Creates offer proposals and makes recommendations as to title, salary, bonus, and membership eligibility; presents offer proposals to department chairs and management. Facilitates offer process, including negotiations with candidates and/or their headhunters. Coordinates with HR for onboarding of attorneys, including attorney orientation. Introduces newly hired attorneys to firm mentor program.
Oversees the planning, coordinating, and implementing of the firm-wide summer associate and 2L recruitment programs. Explores and oversees achievement of innovative or enhanced summer associate trainings and programs. Assists attorney summer program directors and assignment coordinators in all offices with the distribution of summer associate assignments and summer associate performance evaluations as needed. Serves as member of hiring committee and participates in all hiring committee meetings. Assist Chief Legal Talent Officer with development of annual recruitment budget and management of budget.
Strategizes with Chief Legal Talent Officer and Director of Professional Development regarding integration initiatives and creative measures to increase attorney retention.
Supervise the Legal Recruiting Specialist and maintenance of internal and external recruiting website pages.
Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of associate hiring and law school recruiting, preferably in a large law firm environment; JD preferred.
Outstanding organizational skills including record keeping and data collection. Ability to compile, analyze and present data.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Proactive with demonstrated troubleshooting, problem resolution, and follow-through skills.
Ability to respond to multiple priorities and meet varying deadlines with a client service approach.
