Attorney Professional Development, Professional Legal Management
As a member of the highly collaborative and well-respected Attorney Development Team, this position is responsible for providing coaching and guidance related to the performance and development of non-member attorneys. This position supervises the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity as well as six Practice Managers while working closely with each of them to ensure effective implementation of the firm’s developmental frameworks to guide attorney career growth. This position partners closely with Section Management on non-member attorney matters.
Supervises the Manager of Attorney Development and Diversity as well as six Practice Managers.
Collaborates with Section Management in the performance management process.
Performs coaching and employee relations for all non-member attorneys, with particular emphasis on performance matters, giving and receiving feedback, managing up and down, preparing for and returning from leaves of absence, preserving the firm’s culture, and flexible work arrangements.
Manages the non-Member transitions process.
Establishes and monitors external coaching arrangements.
Is part of a team that analyzes non-Member compensation and researches market benchmarks and potential new approaches to compensation.
Manages the HR portion of Member integration and departures and facilitates successful integrations by working with Section Managers, Practice Managers, Legal Recruiting and other administrative departments.
Collaborates with other Attorney Development Managers and Practice Managers to implement the Firm’s attorney development strategy.
Travels regularly to other offices.
Assumes additional responsibilities as requested.
BA/BS required, JD required.
10+ years working experience, at least 4 years in law firm setting. 5+ years working within Human Resources preferred.
Demonstrated familiarity with the business model of large multi-disciplinary law firms.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to influence others.
Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment, prioritize multiple projects on a daily basis, and adjust to shifting priorities.
Strong planning, project management and organizational skills.
Strong sense of urgency and a high-energy level.
Facility analyzing, working with and presenting data.
Ability to collaborate and gain the respect, trust and confidence of the Firm’s attorneys and professional staff.
