We are seeking a Professional Development Manager to join our team! The Professional Development Manager will work with the Director of Professional Development, Practice Group Leaders, Practice Group Managers, Attorneys, and staff to develop, implement and oversee attorney training and development programs. Additionally, the Professional Development Manager is responsible for the coordination, management, and administration of the Associate, Non-Level Associate and Senior Professional (billable staff) review process to ensure Legal talent is effectively evaluated and optimized. In addition, the Professional Development Manager is responsible for the coordination, management, and administration of the annual paralegal review process.
It is essential that this person be a self-starter and able to work well in a team environment and independently. This role is expected to be a substantive contributor and must ensure that excellent client service and client satisfaction is attained in all areas.
In accordance with the firm’s Client Service Initiatives, the Professional Development Manager must consistently display good judgment and have effective interpersonal communications. Confidentiality and discretion are required consistently.
Collaborates and coordinates with the Practice Groups on the performance review and compensation process for Level and Non-Level Associates, and Senior Professionals.
Collaborates with the Practice Groups on annual business and strategic plans for Counsel to address associate promotional matters and conversions.
Collaborates with Human Resources on outplacement initiatives.
Works with the Practice Groups, the Business Development and Marketing Department, and other Administrative Departments as needed in the development, planning, and administration of training and coaching programs for firm lawyers, including the First Year Associate Development Program.
Evaluates existing program offerings, conducts periodic gap analyses and surveys to identify opportunities to improve the firm’s training programs.
Builds and maintains relationships with Practice Group Leaders, Managing Directors of Practice Groups, and Practice Group Managers to understand the full spectrum of training needs and wants for the attorneys in their practice groups.
Maintains an understanding of available products and programs, services and tools, processes and procedures, and best practices in an effort to evolve the training and development program to incorporate new information.
Establishes and maintains an understanding of training offered by other law firms and training vendors to help ensure competitive and relevant offerings.
Manages the firm’s CLE program, including internal programs, client-oriented programs, CLE offerings from third party providers, and program compliance; always ensures the firm’s compliance with same.
Oversees the Firm’s Opt-In Mentoring program and works with Professional Development staff, Regional Partners In Charge and Mentoring Program Liaisons to administer the program.
Manage the firm’s exit interview process for Level Associates and Counsel across all offices to gain insights into the employee experience.
Works with the firm’s Professional Development Committee, Hiring Committee, and Diversity Committee on initiatives, analysis, strategies, and administrative matters in regards to attorneys.
Establishes and maintains metrics reporting aimed at understanding and developing talent management and professional development strategies.
Oversees the development of team members through management, development and training, and provides leadership to staff that fosters commitment to excellence, creating a climate emphasizing client service, trust, respect, cooperation, participation, and continuous improvement.
Manages the Professional Development Team and oversee firm-wide projects to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of work enhancements.
Assists with other projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
Superior oral and written communication skills in addition to strong editing skills.
Must be able to think strategically and analytically.
Experience in implementing specialized attorney development-related technological databases in order to streamline the attorney development process.
Ability to evaluate training content and recommend changes.
Outstanding organizational, planning, project management and meeting facilitation skills required, including record keeping, data collection, organizing and tracking program logistics, and tracking of performance to budget.
Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish concise, detailed information in report format, written correspondence, e-mail or verbally.
Strong project management skills.
General understanding of legal and business concepts, or the capacity to learn them quickly.
Must be highly organized and be sensitive and responsive to internal and external client demands and deadlines.
Must be highly motivated, personable, self-starter who is able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully, many with tight deadlines.
Ability to assess, adapt and reprioritize projects quickly when situations change.

Willingness to be flexible and perform responsibilities not specifically identified in the job description and assuming new responsibilities as the Department's and firm's needs change.
Flexible and dependable with the ability to work overtime as needed (i.e., after hours, weekends/holidays, etc.).
Must be willing to travel to all DBR offices on a routine basis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree required.
J.D. or Advanced degree not required but preferred.
Minimum of six years of attorney development and/or organizational development experience; four years of management experience, with at least two years’ experience in a project lead or supervisory capacity.
Experience coordinating and/or managing attorney development activities in a large law firm environment not mandatory but considered a plus.
