Holland & Knight’s Senior Career Development Managers are part of the firm’s Professional Development team and work together as well as independently to design, develop and implement comprehensive career development programs and to provide individualized career coaching to support the growth of the firm’s associates and other lawyers. This position reports to the firm’s Chief Professional Development and Human Resources Officer and works closely with the firm’s Professional Growth and Development Partner as well as other lawyers and professionals across the firm. This position can sit in our Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, or San Francisco locations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Provide confidential, individualized career coaching to the firm’s lawyers.
Design and implement programs and tools to support the creation and management of personal professional development and career plans for the firm’s lawyers.
Participate in discussions with practice group leaders and others regarding the performance of the firm’s associates in connection with the firm’s evaluation process to provide a solid foundation for future coaching efforts; prepare performance evaluation summaries as needed.
Promote, manage and enhance the firm’s multi-faceted lawyer mentoring program.
Develop and deliver training programs to impart coaching and mentoring skills to attorneys at all levels.
Design, implement, and oversee associate relations and retention programs.
Partner with the training and development team to create and manage learning paths detailing the skills and experiences that the firm’s associates should strive to obtain as they progress in their careers.
Partner with the training and development team to create and deliver training programs regarding the path to partnership and other career progression topics.
Implement and oversee a comprehensive exit interview process for attorneys.
Assist with completion of external career development and attrition surveys as needed.
Work with the firm’s Diversity Partner and Director of Diversity and Inclusion to ensure that all career development programs support the diversity goals of the firm and are responsive to the needs of diverse groups of attorneys.
Develop and implement approaches for evaluating career development programs to ensure ROI is achieved. Establish benchmarks for success.
Lead special projects as assigned.
Minimum of 8 years of experience as a practicing associate with at least 4 of those years in a large law firm or a minimum of 10 combined years of experience as a practicing associate, with at least 4 years in a large law firm, and as a member of a large law firm’s professional development, marketing, practice administration or other team that provides direct support to firm lawyers. Experience at a multi-office law firm preferred.
Demonstrated ability to quickly gain the trust and confidence of others to facilitate coaching responsibilities.

Strong interpersonal, consensus-building and teamwork skills; collaborative approach to working with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to travel up to 20%.
JD degree required.
Coaching certification preferred but not required.
