Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP, one of California's preeminent law firms, is seeking a Chief Information Officer. Based in Los Angeles, the Chief Information Officer will plan, coordinate, direct, and lead the design of IT related activities of the Firm, as well as provide administrative direction and support for daily activities of the IT department.
This role is a hands-on technical leader, manager and change maker for the IT department. The position is expected to focus on user-facing technologies and user support. This is a highly visible position and reports to the Firm's Executive Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Management & Leadership
The Chief Information Officer is responsible for the overall performance of the Firm's engineering and help desk teams. He/she will provide technology leadership; direct, plan, organize and supervise the activities of the IT Department; ensure the effective and secure operation of technology systems and services; and manage the IT budget and resources and vendor relationships. Responsibilities and expectations include, but are not limited to:
Develop technology road map and long/short term departmental goals
Develop and drive a collaborative end-user change environment focusing on end user experience
Develop infrastructure, IT operations and end user support strategies
Pursue efficiencies in IT operations and end user service deliveries
Plan and manage IT governance efforts
Develop, instill and maintain an environment of continual operations improvement reviews
Drive attorney and staff satisfaction with new functionality and high service levels
Lead firm wide rollouts
Conduct IT due diligence pre and post rollout
Focus teams on operations excellence
Boost efficiency with new tools, processes, procedures using appropriate/new technology with metrics and KPI's to measure results
Present business cases outlining higher staff retention and job satisfaction with ROI from new efficiencies to build stakeholder consensus
Build, lead, direct and coach motivated collaborative IT teams through right hiring, staff career development, training and positive performance recommendations
Build consensus and effective working relationships with the Firm’s attorneys and staff.
Maintain a satisfactory level of technical skill department-wide, by keeping up with current trends and developments related to positions.
Manage vendor/consultant contracts and vendor/consultant service engagements for all technology and systems used by the Firm.
Manage complex software licensing and maintenance agreements
Infrastructure & Security
The Chief Information Officer is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting the network infrastructure, applications and all other related technologies (physical, virtual and cloud) throughout the organization. The role is extremely hands-on and you will be expected to not only provide guidance but serve as subject matter expert and architect to all aspects of the network domain, with the ability to assist in design and configurations regularly. Knowledge and experience with the following systems is preferred:
Public and Private Cloud technologies – Azure, AWS and VMware on AWS
Data Protection – Backup, BCDR and Replication technologies
Active Directory –AD DS, DNS, DHCP, GPO
Messaging – Exchange (2013 or newer), Office 365, Spam/Content filtering
Mobile Device Management (MDM) Solutions and Mobile Endpoint Protection
Automation technologies – SCCM, Powershell, etc.
Monitoring of all firm’s systems inclusive of virtualization, networking, storage, and systems applications
Datacenter Operations – Planning and execution of add/remove/changes inside a Co-located datacenter
Other products that augment or replace the features and functions listed above
Applications/Desktop & User Support Services
The Chief Information Officer is responsible for identifying user needs, resolving problems and directing the IT team to provide top quality, consistently available computer service, support, training and maintenance of technology systems; ensuring attorney and staff have the appropriate tools to satisfy their practice needs, perform their duties and serve the Firm’s clients. Knowledge and experience with the following applications is preferred:
The Chief Information Officer must be able to communicate effectively at all levels of the Firm and must be able to develop productive relationships with attorneys and staff. Candidates must have the experience and knowledge to engender confidence and respect from the partners and executives. Candidates must be collaborative by nature and have experience working in a collaborative environment. He/she must also be an effective leader and mentor to all staff in the IT area. The successful candidate will have experience developing and implementing major IT changes firm-wide.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum 10 years of IT support experience in a production environment
Minimum 5 years of management experience in a law firm environment
IT governance certification preferred (ITIL/COBIT)
Experience working in a law firm or legal department is required
Experience leveraging ITIL best practices
Experience managing an enterprise Microsoft computing environment
Experience managing an enterprise VMware infrastructure
Experience managing, designing, and implementing enterprise business continuity solutions
Experience managing vendors, contracts, and technical consultants
Experience managing IT change management procedures in an enterprise environment
Experience using and managing IT incident and problem management solutions
Understanding of multi-site network topologies and designs
Understanding of the challenges of information security in a law firm environment
Clear and effective written and verbal communication
Experience in dealing with difficult interpersonal situations regarding support issues
Ability to lift and move equipment up to 30 lbs. and is required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in confined areas
Flexibility to work beyond 37.50 hours a week when necessary
