Miller Canfield, an international law firm, is seeking a Manager of Attorney Recruiting position which will be located in the firm’s Detroit Office. The Manager will be responsible for planning, implementing and managing all aspects of the Firm’s attorney recruiting and integration efforts. The Manager will work closely with the CEO, COO, Hiring Chair and Practice Group Leaders to recruit, prioritize and coordinate the recruitment and integration activities in accordance with practice group business plans. The Manager will act as primary contact with law schools and attorney search firms.
On Campus Recruiting:
Work with Hiring Chair and Hiring Committee on an annual basis to develop and implement an overall recruiting strategy for on campus recruiting
Develop ongoing relationships with career placement directors; serve as primary day-to-day contact between law schools and the firm
Source appropriate candidates through law school placement directors and various campus organizations
Manage all aspects of the on-campus recruiting process
Oversee the interview process
Manage the planning of summer associate programs and related events
Coordinate performance review process for summer associates
Prepare agenda for Hiring Committee meetings; coordinate/schedule committee meetings; attend and participate in meetings; provide support for committee
Attorney Recruiting and Onboarding:
Work with practice group leaders to determine associate needs
Analyze and report on internal and market trends in attorney recruiting; maintain membership and involvement with National Association for Law Placement (NALP)
Source candidates through the Firm's database, referrals, professional social media, job boards, websites and direct recruiting in order to identify top talent for critical positions
Develop relationships with various search firms and work to negotiate fee agreements
Manage lateral associate interviewing process including identifying, presenting, and interviewing appropriate candidates and extending offers
Manage lateral hire due diligence and conflict checking processes
Ensure compliance with firm hiring policies and practices, including diversity objectives and screening requirements
Oversee coordination of bar review and exam process
Manage the placement process from the introduction of candidates to the offer and acceptance stage
Ensure the successful integration of all new attorneys from group placement, orientation, to assignment of mentors
Maintain and update "Careers" portion of the Firm's website
Assist in the evaluation of associates and non-principals to the extent requested by Firm management
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience. Law degree would be a significant benefit.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible recruitment experience in a law firm or professional services setting. Large law firm or professional services experience preferred.
Knowledge of the legal industry and best practices, sources of information and commonly accepted standards of lateral attorney recruiting is beneficial.
Highly developed decision-making and negotiation skills required in addition to excellent written and oral communication, organizational and management skills.
Resourcefulness in analyzing problems and evaluating, proposing and implementing solutions. Ability to exercise sound business judgment and diplomacy in complex situations.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion.
Periodic travel to all firm offices is required.
