The Talent Manager will assist the Attorney Development team with developing training and development programs aligned with the practice groups’ needs. This includes individual and group training activities. They will also support the associate and counsel evaluation process by preparing debriefing statements for junior associates, including compiling the necessary information, conducting interviews, drafting statements and coordinating delivery.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with practice group leaders and the Attorney Development team to develop and implement practice group benchmarks to better articulate skill and professional development expectations. Identify relevant legal and professional skills topics and align the firm’s training curriculum accordingly.
Prepare written debriefing statements for all first, second, and third-year associates. This includes (1) reviewing for each associate his/her evaluators’ comments, self-evaluation, statistical data (e.g., actual and annualized hours), and evaluations and other materials from prior years where available; (2) contacting and interviewing supervising attorneys where appropriate to better understand the supervisor’s comments, and (3) drafting the associate’s debriefing statement and working with the practice group chair and subgroup chair to finalize the statement.
Recommend quality ratings based on evaluation information.
Where there are concerns about an associate’s performance and areas recommended for significant development, collaborate with the Senior Manager for Attorney Evaluations, practice group chair, subgroup chair, and attorney development team to identify appropriate messages, resources and follow up. Track follow up as appropriate.
Manage the firm’s executive coaching engagements, including researching coaches, defining success metrics, monitoring progress and evaluating the ROI.
Coordinate the overall process for drafting and producing debriefing statements with the Senior Manager for Attorney Evaluations and other administrators facilitating the evaluation and compensation processes.
This position may require travel.
Specific Skills Required:
Excellent project management skills, communication skills, and document drafting skills are required. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, is required.
Education & Experience:
A minimum of five years of manager-level attorney development experience at an AmLaw 200 Law firm, or the equivalent, is required. JD and legal practice experience is preferred.
