We seek a Legal Learning and Development Specialist to work with our Legal Learning and Development Department in our Washington, DC office. The position will work with the Director of Legal Learning and Development to understand developmental needs of associates and tailor and coordinate training programs to address those needs. Liaising with teams and contacts, screening and retaining outside consultants, and driving aspects of CLE programs are integral aspects of the position. Successful candidates will have experience in a law firm or other professional services environment, excellent interpersonal, client service, and written verbal and communication skills, strong presentation skills, and an ability to be proactive and drive projects forward.
Reports to: Director of Learning and Development
Work with the Director of Legal Learning and Development to gain an in-depth understanding of the developmental needs of associates at specific seniority levels and in particular practice areas in order to develop tailored training programs accordingly
Screen and retain outside consultants to assist in the development and deliverance of specific soft and managerial skills training courses
Liaise with Attorney Development team to ensure necessary training is being delivered to associates and assist groups in leveraging best practices from one another
Coordinate training programs across the Washington office to eliminate redundancies in efforts; help publicize courses through the development of a publicly available course calendar and catalogue for associates
Continue to monitor and refresh the Cleary Core Skills curriculum (required soft skills training for first - fifth year associates) and New Associate Onboarding program
Prepare and analyze participant satisfaction surveys for each course to help make continued enhancements
Assist in the preparation of training materials such as PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and reading materials, and oversee logistics such as conference space, A/V requirements, etc.
Distribute information on required soft skills course to associates and track attendance
Develop and maintain expertise in CLE Rules (particularly DC and NY rules) an research other states' CLE rules as needed
Serve as resource/point of contact for questions on necessary requirements to make programs eligible for CLE credit
Liaise with CLE/training contacts in other offices for multi-office programs and events
General work and assistance on ad-hoc projects
Bachelor's degree required. Juris Doctor highly considered
Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment required
Supervisory experience preferred
Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation skills
Exercises good judgement, excellent organization skills, and strong attention to detail
Able to work independently, plan ahead, push projects forward and meet deadlines
Understanding of Washington, DC CLE requirements and rules preferred, but not required
Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word, PowerPoint and Excel
