As a member of the integrated Legal Recruitment and Talent Development Team, the Manager of Diversity & Inclusion will collaborate with team members and the Inclusion Advisory Committee to develop strategies designed to improve diversity of cultural background among firm attorneys and develop, implement and monitor programs and processes that promote and sustain diversity, equity, and respect throughout the firm for women, racial and ethnic minorities, LGBTQ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities. In collaboration with the Legal Talent team and firm leaders, the Manager will ensure that firm, practice area and legal talent initiatives and programs are aligned with the firm’s values, diversity and inclusion best practices, strategic goals of the firm and development needs of firm lawyers.
Position to be based in Boston or New York.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work collaboratively with leadership of the Inclusion Advisory Committee (“IAC”) and affinity groups to develop and implement annual strategic plans, request and manage annual budgets, provide management updates and implement initiatives set forth by the IAC and affinity groups.
Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Talent Development and Senior Manager of Legal Recruitment to ensure an inclusive and best-in-class orientation and integration experience for all attorneys, continually evaluating and enhancing program elements based on feedback, industry trends, and to foster a sense of belonging at the outset.
Collaborate with Practice Group Leaders and work allocators to continually assess and ensure equal access to opportunities for challenging work.
Provide or arrange for core diversity training programs, workshops and roundtable discussions.
Serve as counselor, advocate and confidant for diverse attorneys.
Work collaboratively with the firm’s Legal Recruitment professionals to evaluate and propose enhancements to recruiting processes to minimize potential bias and identify and implement strategic opportunities to enhance our diversity pipeline.
Work collaboratively with the firm's Talent Development professionals to better support and develop diverse talent.
Work collaboratively with the firm’s Business Development & Marketing professionals to build the firm’s reputation as a leader in diversity and inclusion, including by developing diversity and inclusion content for the firm’s website, intranet, and library of marketing collateral.
Develop and analyze metrics for measuring progress and effectiveness of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy.
Assess, enhance and collaborate on the performance management process for Associates, Counsel and Professional Attorneys, including associate reviews and pre-partnership reviews for those approaching partnership consideration, specifically focusing on enhancing processes to minimize the impact of potential biases and to ensure the equitable assessment of all attorneys.
Manage the Flexible Work Arrangement process, facilitate open communication between Flexible Work Mentors and associates, and collaborate with work allocators to ensure equal access to opportunities.
Stay current with the latest diversity and inclusion research and best practices and share learning with the firm to enhance the firm’s initiatives in these areas;
Collaborate with Legal Talent Team to continually evaluate and enhance firm processes and systems for greater inclusion and equity.
Work on special department or firm projects, as needed.
Bachelor’s degree required. JD, MBA or graduate degree in HR, Education, Counseling or Organizational Development preferred, but not required.
4-6 years working in a professional services firm, law firm preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years diversity and inclusion work experience
Understanding of law firm business operations.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent judgment and ability to work independently.
Detail and action-oriented with strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to drive and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively across all levels.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Database Management Systems, Software for Evaluations
