We are looking to expand our Legal Content Services team and we have an excellent opportunity for a Legal Content Supervisor in our Chicago, Cleveland or Atlanta office. Qualified candidates in other Firm locations may also be considered. This is an exempt position that reports to the Senior Manager of Legal Content.
The Legal Content Supervisor provides support in a traditional and virtual environment along with Legal Research & Content Services staff in other Firm locations. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Senior Manager of Legal Content with acquisitions, content analysis and customer support, while also supervising the Acquisitions and Resource Specialists. Some basic reference and research services to clients, internal attorneys and staff when needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Supervise the Acquisition Specialist and Resource Specialist, guiding them in how to respond to attorney’s questions and overseeing their daily work.
Oversee relationship with contracted Outside Services team which includes day-to-day interaction and management of process (11 filers and 4 paraprofessionals).
Coordinate escalation of Legal Content customer service calls from the business. Also conduct both quick reference and in-depth research services as needed to meet needs of legal personnel and administrative staff Firmwide.
Analyze print and electronic collection, purchase requests, and assist with negotiation of contracts for legal electronic databases when needed.
Help maintain vendor relationships, run demos, and product trials.
Troubleshoot collection issues Firmwide.
Support manager with budget process.
Reference and Research
Provide both quick reference and in-depth research services using a variety of legal and non-legal resources, determining the appropriate resource to use based on time, cost and user need.
Conduct in-depth reference interviews with attorneys in order to clarify the subject, scope and purpose of the request.
Summarize and customize research results in order to meet the specific requirements of the requestor, and report same in centralized research tracking system.
Utilize electronic and print resources to support practice groups across the Firm. Proficient in Lexis or Westlaw, and other online legal research databases.
Provide assistance in supervising the Outside Services department, guiding them with collection analysis, best practices and processes for servicing the customers in their local offices.
Assist Senior Manager of Legal Content in analyzing the print and electronic resources and associated materials for each practice group and office location in the Firm, as well as analyzing new purchase requests and assisting with contract negotiations on smaller contracts. Help in maintaining vendor relationships and conducting demos and trials of new products.
Assist in creating bibliographical tools (collateral, content guides, checklists, etc.) on legal resources the Firm subscribes to, where to locate them and best utilization practices.
Work with Attorneys, Legal Researchers, Office Administrators, and others to troubleshoot issues Firmwide in relation to both print and electronic resources. Work with vendors to resolve these issues.
Assist when needed in escalation of Legal Content customer service calls from the business, taking ownership of Tier 2 resolution.
Keep up to date on changes and developments in information resources and new legal products being developed.
Test new services and products for possible addition to collection.
Communicate effectively with publishers and other information providers to advance the interests of the Firm.
Share with other staff any comments or feedback received from Legal Research and Content Services patrons.
Recognize the value of professional networking and actively participate in professional associations and online communities.

This position has two people directly reporting and assists with supervising Outside Services.
Advanced degree in MLS or MLIS from ALA-accredited institution or Information Science program. Degree in related field or J.D., as well as Law Library experience will be considered. At least 5 years of experience with collection development and vendor relationships, preferably at a law firm, however, equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, OneNote, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Savvy technology skills using an array of online legal and business research tools. Proven aptitude to learn new software applications.
Strong analytical and communication skills both oral and written. Ability to speak effectively and respond to common inquiries or complaints from all levels of professional and support staff, clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Maintain effective relationships with partners, attorneys, vendors and staff and to exhibit a high degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism in these interactions.
Excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines. Ability to work overtime when needed. Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.
Strong project management skills, strong client service approach and team orientation. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and have well-developed analytical and resourceful problem-solving abilities. A tolerance for uncertainty and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
