Honigman LLP is a premier AmLaw 200 firm seeking a Director of Attorney Lateral Recruitment and Integration in our Detroit office. This individual will help identify, attract, and integrate talented, diverse Lateral Partners and Associates into the firm. Working primarily with the Firm’s Lateral Hiring Partners and legal Department Chairs, the Director will develop and execute effective recruiting strategies and align recruiting priorities and resources with the strategic needs and plans for each of the Firm’s legal departments. The Director will also work closely with other members of the Firm’s legal departments and administrative team to ensure lateral integration and retention goals of the Firm are achieved. The Director will work with all areas of the Firm to develop and sustain best in class retention and professional growth. The Director is expected to think strategically about recruiting and integration and adopt best practices for achieving the Firm’s goals.
Working directly with and under the direction of the Lateral Hiring Partners, and working closely with the Department and Practice Group Chairs, and other firm leaders, this position will:
• Raise the Firm’s visibility both internally and externally and help shape the profile of the Firm’s lateral partner recruitment efforts. • Act as a contact with attorney search firms and lateral candidates, fostering a strong presence for the Firm and strengthening relationships with the search firms. • Develop a method to track recruiting leads and future hires through networking and research. • Maintain a robust understanding of the Firm’s practice areas, industries, brand, markets, and lateral-hiring objectives. • Think creatively about sourcing talent to ensure the Firm attracts and hires impressive and diverse candidates. • Be able to critically assess lateral partner questionnaires, working with the Firm’s ethics team, assist with screening for conflicts, the flagging of special fee agreements and other important considerations. • Follow the lateral’s integration for the first 12-18 months to ensure the integration goals of the Firm and the lateral are achieved. • Liaise with all relevant departments to achieve seamless onboarding of new hires, including office services, technology, Attorney Development, Human Resources, training, payroll, etc. • Maintain thorough and accurate data to facilitate the regular preparation of detailed reports and analyses of recruitment trends to the Lateral Recruiting Partners and other key individuals. • Develop innovative and creative ways to disseminate the Firm’s recruiting messages, including helping with the creation and maintenance of the recruiting website, brochures and other collateral. • Maintain consistent communication with the Lateral Hiring Partners to discuss matters ranging from pipeline to interview schedules and training. • Propose and manage the budget for attorney recruiting initiatives. • Perform other duties as assigned.

• A proven track record of effective recruitment of lateral partners/attorneys within a law firm environment. • Exhibit a client service mindset and a commitment to communicate with and inspire the larger team involved in lateral hiring. • Strong ability to collaborate and engage with Partners and staff leaders. • Must be a creative problem solver and possess a high level of self-confidence, maturity and excellent judgment. • Ability to maintain highly confidential and sensitive information. • Demonstrate a professional demeanor and the ability to display poise and diplomacy in difficult situations. • A proven ability to take ownership of matters to drive towards a successful result, but also collaborate with the team to foster discussion and consensus. • Exceptionally strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a number of responsibilities, while maintaining accuracy. • Excellent written and oral communication skills – including the ability to tailor the communication style to a specific audience. • Knowledge of the legal market and industry trends is important, as is a willingness to learn.
• A minimum of seven years of prior attorney recruiting experience at a law firm. • A bachelor's degree is required. An advanced degree is preferred. • Must be technically proficient in a wide variety of software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, viRecruit).
Ability to travel up to four (4) times a year domestically may be required for this position.
