Attorney Recruitment, Professional Legal Management
FLEX by Fenwick is a service provided by the law firm Fenwick & West LLP that offers in-house legal support to fast-growing high technology companies. We have an opening in our New York office for a Recruiter and Engagement Manager within the FLEX department.
The FLEX Recruiter and Engagement Manager will be responsible for sourcing, vetting and onboarding FLEX attorneys for the NY region, responding to client requests, suggesting FLEX attorneys for potential client engagements, and managing client engagements from negotiation through implementation. This individual will identify and develop new client opportunities, maintain and enhance relationships with existing clients and attorneys on active engagements, and collaborate closely with the FLEX team in San Francisco.
Manage the hiring process, including creating job description and developing a job posting strategy, evaluating resumes against hiring needs, phone screening candidates, gathering interview feedback, assessing the legal skills of the candidates through testing process, providing judgment calls regarding conflicts concerns, and reviewing and suggesting compensation for attorney candidates.
Utilize online recruiting tools (e.g. LinkedIn) efficiently and effectively.
Develop broad and deep knowledge of the FLEX attorney roster (skills, experience, styles, preferences) and suggest appropriate candidates for client engagement opportunities.
Build significant professional relationships with attorneys on the FLEX roster for NY.
Act as the main point person related to HR policy matters for FLEX.
Communicate with attorneys to ensure the effective resolution of attorney issues as they arise.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Research prospective clients and respond to inbound requests for FLEX services.
Respond to Fenwick Partners and Associates' requests for client support quickly and clearly.
Consult FLEX General Manager (GM) regularly on business development strategy and keep GM informed about FLEX operations.
Develop expertise in using the FLEX data management system to input information about FLEX attorneys, clients and engagements – as well as expertise in searching for appropriate attorneys for client requests.
Recommend, select and submit suitable attorney candidates to meet client’s legal needs.
Prepare attorneys for interviews with the client, and negotiate price and contract terms.
Obtain feedback, handle any issues in an efficient manner and ensure client and attorney satisfaction throughout the engagement lifecycle.
Track the expected end of engagement, contact clients regarding renewing engagements, and help the attorney transition their projects appropriately once an engagement ends.
Provide regular reports on all active and potential engagements, including fulfillment activity, fulfillment success, engagement status, and communications with clients and attorneys.
Manage and optimize the client engagement processes.
Use FLEX data management system to track and monitor client leads and potential and active client engagements.
Direct the Finance department on the preparation of monthly and supplemental invoices, track status of payments, and communicate with the client regarding payment collections.
Develop hiring profiles (FLEX bios) to match client needs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Excellent oral and written communication skills with an understanding of complex legal and technical language.
Knowledge of the legal industry and legal practice areas, especially in the context of technology and life sciences companies.
Remain productive, efficient, conscientious and collaborative under pressure with tight deadlines (a sense of humor helps, too).
Highly self-motivated, ability to prioritize and works well within a distributed team environment.
Understanding of the client acquisition and management processes for a professional services organization.
Strong client service ethic, outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to learn and understand clients’ business and legal needs quickly and efficiently.
Exceptional active listening skills and the ability to effectively advise clients and describing the attorneys to meet their needs.
Strong organizational and attention to detail skills - keeping track of details including keeping client, attorney and engagement information accurate in databases.
Proficiency at developing presentations, reports, and statistics related to the effectiveness and performance of the client management function.
Extremely skilled in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Reporting to the General Manager of FLEX, the ideal candidate will have at least 3+ years of recruiting, professional development or HR experience, and/or position managing professionals with hiring, recruiting and networking experience; preferably in an organization that provides legal services or demonstrable understanding of the structure of in-house legal departments. Experience representing clients/companies in corporate or commercial negotiations and agreements a plus. Bachelor's degree required; JD degree highly preferred.
