The Career Counselor will work strategically with the Senior Director of Career Services to manage the career services experience for assigned students and recent graduates.The successful candidate will be a results-driven, dynamic team player with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to interact well with a diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide information to students on topics that affect career opportunities and advancement such as job opportunities, job search strategies, educational and training opportunities, occupational outlook information, career enhancement materials and resume writing.
Advise students in all aspects of career and professional development.
Maintain information in computerized information systems that support student placement efforts.
Prepare operational and statistical reports.
Develop and maintain relationships with hiring representatives from potential employers of law graduates.
Coordinate events in which potential employers can discuss employment and career opportunities.
Create marketing strategies to increase student and employer awareness of and participation in career services programs.
Conduct workshops and programs on career planning and placement topics.
Maintain professional growth by participating in educational programs and professional organizations and activities to maintain knowledge of national trends in the legal career services field.
Perform related responsibilities as required.
The successful candidate will enjoy working in an often fast-paced environment, in a role that calls for considerable self-directed initiative. In addition, they will have warmth and approachability, solid judgment, and the ability to plan, meet deadlines, and multitask. Some evening and occasional weekend work, as well as some local and out-of-state travel will be required.
A master's degree in psychology, counseling or a related field (inclusive of a Juris Doctor degree)
Recent experience working in the legal profession with a preference practice in Big Law.
Previous experience guiding law students or legal professionals.
Experience working with Symplicity Management Systems.
