Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, a Denver based law firm of 250+ attorneys and policy professionals, is seeking a Practice Operations Manager for our Corporate and Real Estate Departments. The Practice Operations Manager (POM) is an integral part of the firm that is responsible for managing projects that directly support the operations, service delivery, and compliance of the corporate and real estate departments, and the practice groups operating within the departments. The responsibilities and scope of the role may expand or contract based upon the needs of the departments and qualifications of the candidate. The POM will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer on client service, professional development, process improvement, and risk management efforts within the departments.
The following are some of the responsibilities for the Practice Operations Manager:
Monitor staff levels, utilization, billing rates, realization, WIP, accounts receivable, operating expenses and other financial benchmarks.
Monitor department financial performance, departmental budgets and fee projections.
In conjunction with the COO, monitor and assist with implementation of strategic plans and tactics for the departments and practice groups.
Facilitate communications across departments to proactively identify organizational issues and develop solutions. Develop regular internal practice-focused communications to attorneys, policy professionals and staff.
In conjunction with the business development team, identify and assign attorneys and other professionals to pitches and proposals. Help to gather information for proposal responses and support cross-functional business opportunities.
Ensure the departments are receiving high-level support from all administrative departments and the Business Leadership Team. Conversely, serve as lead department liaison to the Business Leadership Team.
Serve as primary department liaison for attorney and staff recruiting and onboarding.
Serve as primary liaison for departing attorneys and implementation of departing lawyer policies, including supervision of client file transfers.
Work with the information security team and other administrators to address outside counsel guidelines and requirements.
Partner with the professional development team on training initiatives specific to the applicable departments and/or practice groups.
Coordinate administrative needs for peaks in workload and for back-up arrangements with the Legal Support Manager.
Evaluate and implement suggestions from attorneys and staff regarding process improvement, policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. CPA or MBA preferred. Project Management Professionals (PMPs) encouraged to apply.
A minimum of five years’ business experience in a law firm or professional services setting.
A minimum of eight years’ management experience.
The ability to read and interpret documents such as budgets, financial statements, outside counsel guidelines, ethics requirements, and policies and procedure manuals.
