To support those initiatives we are currently seeking a Diversity and Inclusion Manager (Women's Initiatives) who will work under the supervision and direction of the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.
This position is able to reside in the Dallas, Houston, New York or Washington DC office and will be expected to serve as a role model and mentor and create an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement within the firm. The Diversity and Inclusion Manager (Women's Initiatives) is responsible for supporting the firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts related to women, including all programming and initiatives, responding to surveys and requests for information, developing marketing materials, and handling sponsorships.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
In collaboration with the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and the diversity and inclusion team, develop, foster and support initiatives and programs focused on the recruitment, development, advancement and retention of women lawyers at the firm
Lead the development and execution of all firm-wide programming related to gender diversity and also support local office programming
Provide support and guidance to the Chairs of the Women’s Firmwide Resource Group (FRG) and the Chairs of each chapter of the Women’s FRG, including making leaders aware of gender related initiatives and events taking place in different offices around the firm
Assist with the collection, analysis, and preparation of gender diversity-related metrics and statistical information for firmwide reports, RFPs, committee meetings, and other requests, as needed, liaising with the Human Resources department on necessary data and historical materials
Lead the development of the annual budget for the firmwide Women’s FRG and all local office chapters; track, monitor and maintain accurate accounts of all expenses and balances to support adherence to the budget
Collaborate with other firm departments and offices on gender diversity-related initiatives including sponsorships of job fairs, attendance at events, benchmarking assessments, surveys, and competitive and marketplace research on diversity trends
Work closely with the stakeholders on the planning and coordination of internal and external workshops, programs and meetings, including but not limited to the site/catering/audio-visual reservations, marketing and promotion of offerings such as trainings, workshops, and special events
Coordinate with local office staff to implement administrative tasks and duties regarding internal and external initiatives related to women lawyers
Update and maintain the firm’s internal Women’s FRG portal page and gender diversity-related content on the external Akin Gump website
Attend meetings as requested to provide information and serve as a point of contact/resource for gender diversity initiatives
Review, assess, and share market trends and innovations related to gender diversity for possible application at the firm
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a law firm, government agency, or professional services organization desired
Marketing and communications experience
Experience synthesizing data and human capital metrics
Demonstrated commitment to gender equity and diversity and inclusion
Strong service orientation and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers; attorneys; office, firm and practice management; and outside business partners
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Very strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
Ability to manage multiple projects with specific deadlines and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner
