The Attorney Recruiting & Development Manager – Mid Atlantic will manage all aspects of the recruitment, hiring, and integration of summer associates, entry-level associates, lateral associates and partners for our Washington, DC and Charlotte, NC offices. The position is based in Washington, DC and will work closely with Office Managing Partners and local practice group heads, the Hiring Partners and Committee, the Summer Chairs and Committee, the Regional Director of Administration, the Directors of Practice Group Operations, and senior leadership on the Talent Team. Primary responsibilities include:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategically and proactively managing and executing law student, entry and lateral attorney recruiting in the Washington, DC and Charlotte offices
Executing strategic growth initiatives for the Washington, DC office as developed by firm leadership
Developing and maintaining relationships with legal search firms to source and identify lateral partner and associate candidates
Managing the robust orientation, onboarding and integration process for summer associates, entry level associates, lateral associates and new partners
Providing local support for national hiring initiatives and a variety of communication initiatives, including development and production of recruiting materials, research gathering and maintaining competitive data, as well as assisting with programs and diversity initiatives and strategic marketing initiatives to attract top legal talent
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with law school careers services personnel to facilitate the Firm’s law student recruiting efforts
Managing law school sponsorship requests and work with Hiring Partners/Committee to determine participation level and staff events
Working with associates, associates committee, and firm management on issues related to associate lifecycle
Managing and administering the on-campus and in-office interview process for law students
Ensuring the due diligence process for summer associate, entry-level and lateral candidates is completed
Managing all aspects of the summer associate program, including attendance at summer program events and trainings
Preparing and maintaining an annual recruiting budget
Supervising and mentoring department staff as assigned
Working successfully as a team within the firm-wide Attorney Recruiting & Development department
Maintaining a highly visible role in the office(s)
Coordinating attorney office transfers
Planning quarterly associate happy hours and monthly associate lunches
Planning attorney alumni events and maintain alumni list
Conducting exit interviews with departing attorneys
Responding and handling attorney personnel issues
Preparing and monitoring office recruiting and retention statistics
Collaborating and working with other administrative departments including, but not limited to, business development, conflicts, human resources, accounting, information services, operations
Managing and coordinating other firm enhancement initiatives and projects to support the firm’s strategic hiring goals
Managing local office associate mentoring programs
Bachelor’s degree required
5+- years’ recruiting experience in a large law firm or professional services industry required
2+ years’ supervisory experience is preferred
Self-motivated, energetic, engaged, self-starter with excellent client service skills.
Strong knowledge and understanding of legal recruiting practices and procedures.
Excellent judgment, professionalism, leadership, organization and team-management skills.
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel and project a strong and positive image of the Firm.
Ability to solve problems by gathering facts and applying general procedures.
Ability to evaluate situations in a professional, objective manner.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong managerial skills, including the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
Ability to collaborate and work across offices.
Technology savvy, resourceful, and strong PC skills to include the MS Office Suite™ (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and ViDesktop preferred.
Proficiency and experience with social media outlets such as LinkedIn preferred.
