As a member of the Firmwide (FW) Legal Recruiting and Development (LRD) Department, the Director of Attorney Recruiting, Development & Engagement will support the vision set by Firm leadership and provide strategic direction and implementation for all attorney recruiting, development and engagement activities in San Francisco/Palo Alto. The Director will oversee the processes, programming and overall functioning of the recruiting, development and engagement channels with the goal of creating an irresistible, best-in-class workplace for the Firm’s attorneys.
The position will closely collaborate with the Senior Director of Firmwide Legal Recruiting & Development, Global Director of Diversity & Inclusion, Director of Firmwide Legal Education & Development and local leadership to implement and advance various initiatives related to (i) recruiting, hiring and onboarding, (ii) attorney workflow integration, (iii) morale, retention and employee engagement, (iv) diversity, equity and inclusion (“DEI”), (v) practice area specific training, and (vi) associate review initiatives.
Develop strategies and programs designed to increase the Firm’s exposure to top candidates, particularly those in the office’s key practice areas.
Identify and implement recruiting initiatives that support the Firm’s commitment to DEI, including close collaboration with local Diversity Committee and affinity group leads and maintaining strong relationships with law schools, alumni associations, and career placement centers.
Lead, manage, and direct a professional recruiting staff with clear performance expectations, measures for accountability, and professional development opportunities.
Formulate, administer and maintain recruiting policies, operational procedures and practices consistent with the goals and objectives of the Firm and the office.
Serve as the office’s primary contact with all outside organizations involved in the legal recruiting process, including the National Association for Law Placement (“NALP”), other law firms, and legal search consultants, and engage the services of external professionals, such as search and research firms, as needed, to help identify potential candidates.
Oversee the management of the office’s summer associate program, including social programs, surveys, and evaluations.
Regularly meet with practice group leaders, Hiring Partners and others as appropriate to ascertain future attorney needs, including lateral hiring, and determine staffing strategies, based upon the office’s short-term and long-term growth objectives.
Oversee the attorney offer and hiring process.
Ensure the regular maintenance of, and contribution to, attorney applicant databases for purposes of applicant tracking, NALP reporting, and reference checking.
Provide strategic direction and implementation for attorney training and development initiatives.
Lead, manage, and direct a professional training staff with clear performance expectations, measures for accountability, and professional development opportunities.
Formulate, administer and maintain training policies, operational procedures and practices consistent with the goals and objectives of the Firm and the office.
Oversee the development and execution of all in-house attorney training programs.
Oversee the development and execution of all new attorney onboarding, orientation and training.
Oversee the development and execution of all summer associate programming and training.
Oversee compliance with California CLE rules and regulations.
Lead, manage, and direct a professional engagement staff with clear performance expectations, measures for accountability, and professional development opportunities.
Formulate, administer and maintain engagement policies, operational procedures and practices consistent with the goals and objectives of the Firm and the office.
Drive the development and execution of attorney engagement initiatives designed to create an irresistible workplace. Develop and implement a standard of excellence around attorney morale and retention initiatives.
Liaise with and support local Diversity Committee and affinity groups. Facilitate local DEI initiatives, annual programming and events in collaboration with FW Diversity & Inclusion, local Diversity Committee and affinity groups.
Liaise with and support local Associates Committee.
Monitor attorney utilization rates and collaborate with associates and partners to ensure appropriate workflow and professional development opportunities.
Develop, implement and maintain a robust internal mentoring program.
Develop and implement new hire and lateral integration program to effectively integrate and appropriately support new attorneys in partnership with local LRD teams. Assist new attorney hires with social and workflow integration and help them navigate and acclimate to the Kirkland open assignment system.
Function as a local programming lead for the Colleagues For Life Alumni Program.
Encourage a consistent “One Firm” attorney engagement experience by fostering collaboration across offices, departments, and LRD channels, and ensuring the Firm’s strategies, processes, and tools are best-in-class.
Drive and support a cohesive engagement strategy across the Firm and work to further develop a world-class, recognizable morale and retention “brand” both internally and externally.
Bachelor's degree required, Master/MBA preferred; Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in similar setting
Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, project management skills, analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
