The Practice Group Assistant generally will work under the direction of the partners and attorneys in the practice group and the paralegal manager. Duties will be a mixture of knowledge-based research andwriting, as well as practice and client support and development. The Assistant will at times exercise independent judgment and discretion to perform substantive research and practice support initiatives for the practice group. The Assistant will maintain positive contact with clients and observe confidentiality in client matters.
Responsibilities include:
Practice group management – Support the leaders of the Cybersecurity and Data Privacy practice in marketing and other administrative functions. These tasks will include tracking matters handled by the Firm, assisting with maintenance of the practice’s web presence, and assisting with client alerts. Coordinate the distribution to clients and interested parties of publications/alerts written by the practice group. Where necessary, receive all inquiries from readers of the practice group’s publications and route them to the appropriate attorneys. Work with the practice group to coordinate and plan the agenda for regular practice group meetings. (30%)
Research, writing and client matter support – Research at the direction of practice group attorneys/professionals on regulatory and legal issues, clients and prospective clients, general business trends and issues being followed by the practice group, and factual questions in connection with client-related matters. Prepare reports and memoranda as necessary on the research to support the activities of the practice group, including a) developing the practice group’s general understanding of business and legal issues; b) articles, speeches, presentations, book chapters; and c) client requests or business development. Assist with preparation of annual and periodic regulatory reports filed on behalf of the practice group’s clients, and assist with any client matter administrative proceedings and/or litigation requests. (30%)
Marketing and Business Development Support – Serve as the practice group’s primary point of contact to the Firm’s and Washington D.C. Office’s Business Development & Marketing staff, including providing the necessary support to ensure that all practice group promotional and descriptive materials are accurate and current and have been included on the Firm’s website. Act as Resource Custodian and maintain the practice group’s paper and electronic library (“Knowledge Bank”) of research materials, publications, past articles, speeches, newsletters, agency issuances, and research files. (30%)
Press Reporting – Daily monitoring of local, national and international English-language press sources for issues relevant to Cybersecurity and Data Privacy clients. Circulate relevant information from these sources to the practice group and/or clients. (10%)
Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
Education/Training/Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Professional Experience:
Entry-level position. 1-2 years’ experience supporting attorneys/litigation practice preferred
Background in, familiarity with, and/or educational training in performing substantive research projects required
Basic knowledge of marketing and transaction matters in order to perform substantive research and PR functions for the practice group in matters as normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Experience working with case management or tracking reports preferred
