The Manager of Professional Development – Litigation and Financial Restructuring will be a key member of the Firm’s Professional Development team. Reporting to the Director of Training & Professional Development, the position will support training and coaching offerings for lawyers throughout Milbank’s U.S. offices, with a particular focus on the U.S. Litigation and Financial Restructuring groups. This position will also collaborate with colleagues in the Firm’s global offices, including on ethics and professionalism and compliance training offerings. Bring your Litigation or Financial Restructuring PD experience to this highly visible role, in which you will collaborate closely with partners, associates, and other talent management professionals to create and manage market-leading learning experiences.
Working closely with PD Committee, practice group training partners, and group talent managers, manage and innovate the Firm’s established Advocacy@Milbank and Restructuring@Milbank associate training curricula, including mock trial programs. Collaborate with these colleagues to conceive, plan and execute other training programs for these groups as needed.
In collaboration with the PD Director and staff, oversee production and evaluation of PD programming aspects of annual U.S. new associate orientation.
With the support of PD Coordinator, manage all aspects of lawyering skill coaching programs for U.S. lawyers.
In collaboration with the PD Director and staff, manage firm’s CLE accredited provider statuses in New York and California.
With the support of PD Coordinator, advise firm attorneys on compliance with New York and California CLE requirements.
In collaboration with the PD Director and staff and firm’s Risk Management Committee and HR team, develop and execute Ethics and Professionalism and compliance CLE programming for Firm’s U.S. qualified lawyers globally.
In collaboration with other PD Managers, present on PD offerings to groups of firm lawyers. Regularly present on areas of responsibility to firm’s Professional Development Committee.
Contribute to the creation and management of the PD budget and manage relationships with external training vendors.
Supervise and mentor junior PD staff.
Form and cultivate relationships in the legal PD community, and with the firm’s lawyers and staff, to keep abreast of training trends and needs.
Other responsibilities as they are assigned from time to time.
Bachelor’s degree required. J.D. a plus but not required.
Professional coaching training a major plus.
At least five years’ legal professional development experience, or a combination of at least two years’ legal PD experience and five years’ litigation or other advocacy-based practice experience.
Familiarity with viLMS a plus.
Familiarity with the CLE rules a major plus.
Strong presentation skills, relationship-building skills, and a high level of diplomacy.
