BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The Associate Director of the Career Center will work collaboratively with the Director, Recruiting Manager, and Associate Dean to provide law students with career and professional development, including coaching services, professional development and career exploration programming, data collection and reporting, and on-campus interviews. The Associate Director is also responsible for general career coaching of 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and alumni on the career development process including reviewing application materials, researching employers and job opportunities, and conducting mock interviews.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Coach students on all aspects of developing and managing their careers. Provide guidance, support, encouragement, accountability, and expertise on the job search process.
- Collaborate with the Director to ensure students have access to opportunities in and resources related to the private and public sector.
- Present and teach students techniques on determining ideal career path, skill building, networking, job application materials, and how to effectively present during the interview process.
- Plan, organize and present workshops and networking receptions designed to educate students and graduates about legal career options and job search techniques. Recruit alumni and other attorneys for networking events, mock interview programs, and other events.
- Attend external events to promote the law school and establish ties to the public interest and public sector communities, as well as firms and companies.
- Advise employers on ideal methods to recruit GGU students and educate them on the value of participating in the GGU externship program, hiring GGU interns, as well as the benefits of participating in OCI and career events.
- Manage Public Interest / Public Sector Career Day on behalf of GGU, which includes collaborating with representatives from various Bay Area law schools.
- Work independently, initiate projects, and follow them through to completion.
- Collaborate and communicate with team members. Prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
- Assist with collecting and analyzing employment statistics for the ABA and NALP.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Work experience in public interest or the public sector is desired.
- JD degree preferred but will consider graduate degrees in higher education or counseling.
- Knowledge of the legal employment market and hiring practices in addition to job search techniques and best practices of career development.
- Skills in motivating and properly encouraging students and attorneys to reach their full potential.
- Customer service mindset with strong empathetic abilities especially as it relates to the difficulties around students navigating a complex job market.
- Superior coaching skills and demonstrated experience advising students or attorneys on career development.
- Strong skills and experience cultivating relationships in the legal community.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Prior experience with diverse populations preferred.
