The University of Colorado Law School encourages applications for a Director for Law Firms and Diversity Hiring Initiatives to connect students and alumni with employers to find the right employment match. Working collaboratively with colleagues in the Career Development Office, the Director provides comprehensive career counseling with a focus on those interested in law firm opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Career Counseling

• Provide strategic one-on-one and group career advising and assistance to students/alumni including collaboratively creating action plans.
• Collaborate with students to develop job search strategies, conduct mock interviews, and review and critique resumes and cover letters. Highlight competencies including professional skills in communication, project management, creative problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
• Help students develop a professional portfolio through exposure to different practice areas, work environments, and developing first-hand experience.
• Support professional development, providing guidance on building connections and networking through individual counseling sessions, and creating programs for 1Ls.

Law Firms

• Manage all aspects of the Fall and Spring On-Campus Interview (OCI) programs, including employer recruitment and registration, employer fee collection, online scheduling, and problem-solving.
• Develop, schedule and facilitate career-development-related programs, workshops and networking receptions, staying abreast of developments in the current legal employment market and the legal profession.
• Assist students in identifying and contacting small/mid-sized law firms for internship and post-grad job opportunities outside of Fall and Spring OCI programs.
• Assist with application materials and preparation for interviews and provide support and counseling throughout the law firm interview and selection process.

Diversity

• Serve as the Office’s primary contact and representative to the Pledge to Diversity Program, including attending all relevant Pledge information sessions, meetings, events, and interviews throughout the fall, spring and summer.
• Support eligible first-year law students with applying to and interviewing with Pledge employers.
• Provide counseling during all steps of the selection process and through their summer placements. Coordinate 2L/3L student Pledge liaisons.
• Facilitate and manage diversity career fairs.

Employer Outreach

• Conduct ongoing employer outreach and establish strong professional relationships with employers. Promote students to employers and provide students with contacts for formal and informational interviews.
• Solicit job opportunities for postings on CDOnline from employers, matching students and employers.

Data Collection and Support

• Contact recent graduates to compile and report graduate employment statistics. Assist with maintaining the online database of employment opportunities.
• Work with the Assistant Dean and staff to complete career-related surveys for the American Bar Association, U.S. News & World Report, the Princeton Review, and NALP.

Additional Information

• This position supports a hybrid work modality with an anticipated 3 days in the office and 2 remote days per week.
• All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience counseling and marketing law students and/or lawyers.
• Experience creating effective job search strategies for law students in the current job market.
• Experience with web-based legal career research systems, social media, and ways of using technology to be efficient and effective.
