Quarles is a multidisciplinary Am Law 200 firm with approximately 550 attorneys in 13 offices. As our Lateral Partner Recruiting Manager, you will work closely with firm leadership, the team’s director, and our new Legal Integration Manager. This position is a critical addition to our strategic growth and integration activities. As a member of our firmwide recruiting team, you will join a fantastic group of talented, creative, and collaborative professionals.
This position is open in our Chicago, Indianapolis, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Naples, Phoenix, St. Louis, and Tampa offices.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
Work closely with the Managing Partner, Firm President, National Practice Group Leaders, Practice Group Managers, and Office Managing Partners to drive lateral partner recruiting activities, including proactive candidate searches and opportunistic growth opportunities;
Collaborate with firm and practice group leaders to understand lateral partner needs and strategic growth priorities;
Develop strategies for sourcing lateral partner talent, utilizing internal and external resources and technology;
Provide leadership with proactive updates on active searches and pipelines, target lists, recruiting activity, and strategy;
Develop and maintain strong relationships with legal placement firms and engage external recruiters in the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of lateral partners and groups;
Review and negotiate fee agreements and vendor contracts;
Conduct proactive individual and group searches to support the firm and practice groups’ strategic growth priorities through various methods;
Manage candidate submissions, including reviewing and briefing Managing Partner and National Practice Group Leaders;
Serve as the primary contact for candidates and facilitate information sharing between the Firm and candidates, as appropriate;
Lead due diligence, internal and external, processes on lateral partner candidates and work with outside vendors as needed and in compliance with federal, state, and local laws;
Mange interview processes that are thoughtful, high-quality, and professional;
Work with practice group leadership and sponsoring partners to develop and draft candidate memos;
Review and analyze LPQs and coordinate with the Pricing & Practice Economics team to develop lateral candidate financial models;
Draft lateral partner terms sheets and agreements;
Monitor current market trends and suggest new practices and programs to improve lateral partner recruitment;
Coordinate with the lateral partner integration team to ensure a smooth transition for lateral partner hires;
Supervise and direct lateral partner recruiting administrative support;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree required, law degree a plus
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in recruiting in a law firm or professional services organization
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing lateral partner recruiting
Experience supervising administrative support required
Demonstrated understanding of legal market dynamics, recruiting best practices, and industry standards and norms
Strong business acumen; understanding of issues impacting the legal industry
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change quickly
Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Strong professional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in all situations and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information
Ability to identify complex issues and escalate as appropriate
