The Assistant Director of Student Recruitment - U.S. leads national student recruiting efforts for lawyer and business services positions. Will also lead through a combination of direct management for Chicago Student Recruiting Manager and US Student Recruitment Specialist, as well as guiding work of HR Generalist teams and general recruiting resources in local offices. The Assistant Director of Student Recruitment - U.S. will work closely with local office Hiring Partners and Hiring/Recruitment Committees and serves as a primary relationship contact with law schools.
Leadership of US Offices Student Recruitment Programs
Serves as lead person providing direction and oversight for law student recruitment in the U.S. for summer associate, , transactional fellows, and foreign associate positions and manages the development of the Summer Associate Program as a pipeline for our entry level associate hiring
Manages post clerk hiring and related recruitment strategy in coordination with Litigation FPLs and Appellate Partners
Sets strategic path and implementation for a consistent recruitment process standard and candidate experience.
Monitors market trends around student recruitment and summer program and initiates new ideas for continuous improvement
Develops recruitment collateral materials such as diversity and pro bono materials, Career Opportunities website, social media content, Barbri, Themis, Flo Recruit, Forage and Vault relationships, etc.
Enhances the Firm’s relationships with law school Career Services professionals and ensures that Firm information / updates are communicated, aiming to increase Firm visibility on campus; establishes strong relationships with Firm leaders of school teams
Ensures candidates and summer associates have a consistent high quality experience across all offices; one Firm approach, allowing local adaptation as needed
Identifies innovative approaches to improve diversity in our recruitment efforts and actively collaborates with the DEI team
Facilitates strong communications, consistency and coordination across the offices among professionals involved in student recruitment
Provides first line of support to National Hiring Partner, coordinating periodic Hiring Partner meetings as needed
Oversees the US-wide maintenance of the applicant tracking data and reporting. Manages process for on-boarding and orientation and exits of summer associates
Oversees the development and administration of the training, social events, mentoring, work assignments, evaluations and offer process during the Summer Program
Oversees NALP form filing, Vault relationship, AmLaw Summer Associate survey, recruitment budgets, recruitment software tools and usage guidelines, Career Opportunities website, Forage, Barbri, Themis, etc.
Leadership of HR Teams Responsible for Student Recruitment & Summer Program
Ensures appropriate interface of local office HR team members handling student recruitment in collaboration with Assistant Director of HR (Acting Director of HR):
Hiring Partners to develop hiring goals, recruitment strategies, on-campus interview process, status reporting and meeting agendas;
Recruiting Committee and School Team Captains to discuss candidates, recruiting programs, strategies and processes;
Practice Leaders regarding hiring needs and first year associate placement;
Law school career services professionals;
HR teams in other offices to coordinate OCI, applicants for multiple offices, website, promotional materials, gifts, etc.;
Diversity professionals on law student outreach, candidate follow up, diversity tracking, and diversity strategy;
Employment Counsel for legal compliance/risk management
HRIS professionals to implement procedures for department software tools such as LawCruit, viDesktop for summer work assignments, Simplicity, LinkedIn, data integrity and reporting, etc.
Train, develop and manage team members handling student recruitment and summer program and summer work allocation.
Education/Training/Certifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, required
Advanced degree in Human Resources or Law, preferred
Professional Experience:
Minimum of eight years of law firm or professional services firm student recruiting and team management experience, required
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, required
Knowledge of applicant tracking [LawCruit], work assignments and performance evaluation [viDesktop], and HRIS [PeopleSoft] software, FloRecruit, virtual interview tools, preferred
Performance Traits:
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors
Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm

Management Accountabilities:
Manages the student recruiting, summer program budgets.
Manages processes for direct reports in regards to performance appraisals, annual compensation, goal setting and performance counselling
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Operational budget analysis and recommendations
Conducts analysis of staffing levels and participation in the recruitment process
Able to determine and implement change processes to improve workflow efficiencies
Process- and service-oriented with strong leadership and project management skills
Able to set priorities and delegate in an efficient manner
Physical Requirements:
May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
